President’s Message

Dear
SCABSE Members and Supporters:
Welcome to a new
and exciting decade in the history of the South Carolina Alliance of Black
School Educators! It is such an honor for me to have the opportunity to
lead an Alliance of such dedicated, intelligent and committed educators.
“Education is a Civil Right”. We are all so fortunate to be a
catalyst that insures that right for all children in our state. It can be
done! Together we will be a force for change, innovation and advocacy for
an equitable and quality education for all.
During these
challenging economic times, we can do as our forefathers, founders, and
leaders of SCABSE did, SURVIVE and PUSH ON. We are a
strong group of educators dedicated to moving mountains. It is with your
support and creative ideas that SCABSE will be a force for change in
educational practices in South Carolina. I welcome your ideas,
suggestions and participation in SCABSES’ planning, events and
discussions. Now is the time for new and fresh thinking if we are to move
forward. There is strength in collaboration and participation. I
encourage you to become an active participant in SCABSE and come along for
a journey to improve the education of all children in our state- but
especially African American children.
My priority is to
continue to work toward closing the achievement gap for our children. I
believe it can be accomplished by educating school leaders, teachers,
parents and community members on how to improve the culture of the schools
our children enter into each day. The goals of SCABSE create a road map
to accomplishing this goal. I ask that each of you to make the commitment
in making this a reality. Let us re-dedicate ourselves to the mission and
goals of SCABSE and make the next two years a positive change for our most
precious commodity – the children of South Carolina. We can do this!
Best Wishes,
Johnelle L.
